“The late 1980s Maxon SM-01 contains dual JRC4558D and MC1458P op amps. This effect was a repackaging of the early 80s SM-9 Super Metal (Ibanez and Maxon branded). It can be a stand alone distortion pedal with plenty of available gain. The equalization controls are from left to right; high, mid, low. These controls operate fully independent of one another, so when the low end is boosted, the mid and treble remain unaffected and vise-versa, which provides great tonal flexibility. A word about these controls; they are very powerful. High, mid, and bass can either be very substantially boosted or cut.”
