F-605 (Analog Delay)

Effect Information

“This old fossil has chorus, duplex, and a control for the amount of modulation. It also allows you you tailor the input/output levels: -20, -35, -50db. There is a delay only switch that lets only the delayed notes through, the original note is not heard … curiously if this is switched on, when the unit is bypassed, no signal comes through.”

“Runs off 2x9V or +12V (300mA) power supply. Very cool old school delay but it is noisy … you can hear the BBD noise as the notes decay. It contains one MN3005 chip (see circuit board close up below). The effect doesn’t have any companding so the input level is either too large or too small, usually resulting in distortion.”

Some technical discussion on this effect here and here. I own two of these — both came from Europe — one from Italy and the other from Germany. Both are in excellent shape and sound interesting. I would have to agree with the quote above. These are very cool looking but not very practical on stage.
